I bought this for my daughter, she enjoyed the videos when she was younger, now she has no interest whatsoever. I must say they were better than those horrid Baby Einstein videos, at least these go at a slower pace and show lots of happy kids. She i…

I ordered this for my first son when he started to read on his own (2 1/2) and thought it would help him. It didn't. In fact he didn't like watching them at all. Whatever connections were going on in his head to have him read so early were not the s…

Exactly. And parenting is so much more enjoyable when we don't feel the pressure to 'teach.' If I had one wish for all of us for 2010, it would be to remember to trust the gifts and talents that our children have brought with them into the world. Wh…

I've seen the commercial on TV. If it's on TV, it can't be cheap. But you're right, I thought the same thing, the child will learn to read anyways when it's time!

Thank you for the wonderfully kind comment back! Part of what I love about you is that you remind me of my mom, who did tons of knitting and sewing too. She also had an incredibly green thumb, not for veggies, but certainly for roses. I've inherited…

Wonderful! Magda Gerber's advice will not disappoint. She was my mentor and I quote her in almost every article I've written on my website: http://janetlansbury.com. One of my favorite Magda quotations is "Do less, enjoy more!" All the best, Janet

When Helping Children Doesn't Help

On Monday afternoon my eight year old son asked me to help with his homework. His class is reading the novel, Stone Fox, and his assignment was to answer the question, “Does the grandfather have a sense of humor?” The students were asked to make an argument, cite an example from the text, anContinue

Hi, Bye and Thank You (Babies and Manners)

My mom taught me that the worst thing you can be is a ‘phony.’ Like my mother, I value authenticity, and I hope my own children will always have the self-confidence to show their true selves to others and act the way they feel. I also hope that, as members of society, my kids have the kind ofContinue

Hi! Thanks for adding me as a friend. Your work looks very meaningful and enjoyable. My daughter is now 24, so I guess I have to wait for grandchildren! I do have a sister with 3 young children if I could get her online!

Holiday Writing Gifts- Children Can Be Your Family’s Holiday Historian

Writing is the least expensive gift I know. It has other advantages, too: your child can write about his life, your life, whether it’s snowing or raining. They can create their writing gift at the kitchen table, at their desk even lying in bed. There are at least 500 kinds of writing gifts to be made. None of them are fattening, and all are a gift from the heart.

Writing Family Story Gifts:
When your child gives your family the gift of a story they are giving a gift of their time that is from their heart. Besides every family needs someone to preserve stories about their family; your child could be that person, they could become the family holiday historian.

Here are a few great writing ideas to help them get started:

hi Janet, i have just joined this network - it looks like a great way to meet people from all over. I am from Australia, and just had to make a comment - that you look identical to my girlfriend who is a model - and modelling my lambswool baby papoose.
Your work looks like a very rewarding job. Take care.
